In an Election Season, Online Projects Engage Brazilians
A number of online projects promoting electoral transparency and civic engagement have cropped up ahead of the October general elections in Brazil. Brazil has the largest democracy in the world, with over 120 million voters who are required by law to vote if they are between the ages of 18 and 70. Come October 3, Brazilians will turn out to vote for president, governor, senator, federal, state, and district deputies.
With nearly three-fourths of the Brazilian population online, it’s likely that many are using the web to gather information about candidates. Among the projects created are an election monitoring platform, websites providing information on the transparency of elections and background information on candidates, and video platforms for submitting questions to candidates.
