Email Threats to Iranian Journalists
The email stated, "Your email is on the list. If you continue your illegal activity, you will be punished in accordance with Articles 498, 499, and 510 of the Islamic Punishment Law."
According to Article 498, anyone who organizes a group of more than two people that aims to disturb a country's security will be jailed from two to ten years, and Article 499 stipulates that any member of this group can face three months to five years in jail. Article 510 says people charged with harboring spies intending to harm the country with the help of an enemy can face six months to three years in jail.
The emails were intended to provoke fear but carried no signature. They were sent from the following two email addresses: ‘breaking_news@live.com’ or ‘breaking_news_security_info@mail.com’.
