How to: Create Effective Advocacy Videos

Who should use this Toolkit?

If you want to use video to create change and support your advocacy work, then you are in the right place.

This Toolkit is primarily for human rights defenders and social change activists that are interested in using video to make a difference. Once you create an account, you will go through the same step-by-step process that all of WITNESS' partners and trainees go through to developing a Video Advocacy Plan.

There are 12 chapters in the Toolkit. Each chapter features an interactive video introduction and links to video case studies and resources. You'll also be guided through a series of questions that will help you develop a strategy for your advocacy video. This will take some time. But you can save your work and return to it at any moment.

The Toolkit is not primarily a resource for production-related tips, for example: how to get good audio while filming. (WITNESS has produced a series of basic Filmmaking Tips & Techniques videos that you can access here.) However, throughout the Toolkit there are a host of great resources, ranging from case studies to tips on safety and security.
