Iranians React to Syria’s Bloodshed

A deadly attack on Wednesday, July 18, delivered the harshest blow yet to President Bashar al-Assad's regime, bringing the bloodshed into his inner circle. Three top officials were killed and a number of others were wounded in an explosion at a national security building in Damascus, state TV reported. Iranian journalist Borzou Daragahi tweeted:

Meanwhile, Russia and China vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution on Thursday, July 19, that threatened Syrian authorities with sanctions if they did not halt violence against an uprising, thwarting Western hopes for tough action as the crisis in Syria escalates.

Iranians are very supportive of Syrian people and opposition on social media. Mana Neyestani, Iranian cartoonist, drew this cartoon:

“It's not about Syrian government or its people. It's still obviously about the power game between the West and the so-called ‘East.’” said Leila Mouri, Iranian activist, on her Facebook page.
