Jordanian Youth Movement (@7erak) Launches Online Petition #reformjo

The Jordanian Youth Movement has launched an online petition calling for an overhaul of the Jordanian constitution. The government has proposed that certain reforms be made and the Youth Movement argues these changes are not enough. Their demands include a completely elected parliament as opposed to the current system where half of the parliament is appointed by the king.

The launch of this online petition follows street protests last Friday where hundreds of people flooded the streets demanding greater reforms to the constitution.

The petition on 7erakjo.org received 142 sign ups within 2 hours of launching. According to the Movement's Facebook page the petition site came under cyber attacks shortly after launching.

The Youth Movement was also influential in the street protests in March in Amman where demonstrators called for, "dissolving what is widely seen as a docile parliament, dismantling the largely feared intelligence department and giving greater powers to the people."
