how to:How To Use ObscuraCam
A new app for Android phones allows for the visual privacy of the people in the photos you take.
The ability to instantly upload photos and video from mobile phones is an invaluable tool for activists and citizen journalists. Today regular people are able to report injustices to the rest of the world with the click of a button. However- the ease with which photos and videos can be shared from a mobile phone to social networking sites can also be dangerous. Governments and extremist organizations are pouring over YouTube and Facebook to identify people who are disobeying their orders and this can often lead to jail time or death. ObscuraCam solves this problem on Android-powered phones by being able to pixelate and alter photos that you take with your phone.
Step 1.
From the application homepage, select either a photo from your library or take a photo within the app. Once you select the photo or take it, the app will remove any location data, and camera make and phone information that is associated with the photo.
Step 2.
The app then scans the picture automatically and searches for any faces it detects. Once it is done, the user is able to make additional tags to faces in the photo.
Step 3.
Once all the appropriate tags have been made, the user can now scroll over a tagged person's face and select what kind of alteration they would like to do. The options the offer are:
1. Edit: Select to scale and tag regions
2. Redact: Completely obscure a person's face by blacking out the tagged region
3. Pixelate: Render the person unrecognizable by increasing the pixelation.
4. bgPixelate: Completely pixelate everything EXCEPT the tagged picture.
5. Mask: Select to 'gouge' the face by scratching it with colors.
6. Delete: Delete the current tagged region.
Step 4.
Once you are done editing the image, you can view a preview of the picture by selecting from the app's main menu.
Step 5.
Select "Save" from the app's main menu to your phone's local memory.
Step 6.
You can choose to share the picture with any social networking sites such as Twitter or Facebook that are on your phone already, as the app does not have an option to directly share from itself. The altered photos can be found in your phone's main photo album.
