Movements.org Supports Human Rights and Freedom of Expression Online by Joining GNI
NEW YORK October 11, 2011– Movements.org joined the Global Network Initiative (GNI) in early September in an effort to further its dedication to human rights and freedom of expression online.
Movements.org connects activists to resources that will help them build capacity and improve their use of digital and mobile tools . “We are proud to be joining this multi-stakeholder coalition of businesses and NGOs working together to protect human rights and freedom of expression for internet users all over the world. ” said Rachel Silver of Movements.org.
China is one of many countries that strictly enforces censorship and monitoring of its citizens activities online. The Chinese government prevents its citizens from viewing certain websites and discussing certain topics on blogs and social networks. Movements.org is on the list of blocked websites in China.
Movements.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to identifying, connecting, and supporting grassroots digital activists from around the world. We match members of our global network with necessary resources from the technology, media, private and public sectors in order to help them build capacity.
GNI is a coalition of leading information and communications companies, major human rights organizations, academics, investors and technology leaders dedicated to protecting and advancing the human rights of freedom and expression and privacy.
