Jared Cohen is the Director of Google Ideas, a new entity at Google aiming to re-frame and act on old challenges in new and innovative ways. He is also an Adjunct Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, where he focuses on terrorism and counter-radicalization, the impact of connection technologies, and “21st century statecraft.”Previously, he served for four years as a member of the State Department’s Policy Planning Staff under both Secretaries of State Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Clinton. In this capacity, he advised on the Middle East, South Asia, counter-terrorism, counter-radicalization, and the development of the “21st century statecraft” agenda. He is twice a recipient of the Secretary of State’s Meritorious Honor Award.
Cohen is author of the books Children of Jihad: A Young American’s Travels Among the Youth of the Middle East and One Hundred Days of Silence: America and the Rwanda Genocide. He has also written several articles, including “Diverting the Radicalization Track” (Policy Review) and “Iran’s Young Opposition” (SAIS Review). He received his BA from Stanford University and his M.Phil in International Relations from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar.
Cohen has traveled extensively throughout Africa, where he examined issues related to democracy, governance, and genocide. He has also conducted research in Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, looking at opposition groups, the spread of technology, and interviewing militants ranging from Hezbollah to several Al-Qaeda affiliated groups. He is fluent in Swahili. In his spare time, he enjoys painting, collecting presidential campaign memorabilia, and reading about Tudor England. He has twice served as a juror at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Jason is the co-founder of Movements.org. In 2007, Jason co-founded Howcast Media with the goal of creating the largest – and highest quality – library of how-to videos on the web, providing users with the answer to almost any question, whenever, wherever they need to know how. Since launching Howcast.com in February 2008, Howcast streams tens of millions of videos every month across its multi-platform distribution network. Howcast also works directly with brands, agencies, and organizations such as GE, Proctor & Gamble, Kodak, 1-800-Flowers.com, Staples, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Defense, American Red Cross, and Ford Motor Company to create custom branded entertainment, innovative social media, and targeted rich-media campaigns.
Before Howcast, Jason worked for four years at Google, where he played an integral role in growing strategic content licensing and monetization relationships for the YouTube, Google Video, and AdSense teams. While at Google, Jason was responsible for forging key relationships with a wide range of Google's largest media partners, including Time Warner, News Corp, Viacom, Warner Music, Sony Pictures, Reuters, The New York Times, and the Washington Post Company.
Prior to Google, Jason was at Applied Semantics before it was acquired by Google in 2003, which was one of Google's largest acquisitions in its history. At Applied Semantics, he held several positions, including Executive Vice President of Sales and Business Development. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing and introducing new monetization products, including AdSense, to web publishers.
Jason began his career at Credit Suisse as an investment banker. A New York City native, Jason graduated from Duke University.

In 2008, Roman helped to found Movements.org, hoping to bring together leaders of pioneering youth movements from around the world to launch a global network designed to empower young people to mobilize against violence and oppression. Roman is the founder of Access 360 Media, Inc. (access360media.com), the nation’s largest digital Out-of-Home media network focused on shoppers that connects to over 100MM consumers each month in over 10,000 locations through the communication platforms that matter most to them - In-store, Online and Mobile. It all started when Roman launched the 1st celebrity hosted in-store network called “Seal TV” featuring artists such as No Doubt, Ashanti and Good Charlotte. Roman recognized the unique opportunity for retailers, brands and artists to come together and create an entertaining shopping experience. In 2009, Roman created the PTTOW! Summit (www.youtube.com/pttow), an invite only event bringing together 35 top execs from the world’s most innovative companies to discuss the future of the youth industry, representing every major industry category, including: wireless (AT&T), clothing (Quiksilver); gaming (Activision), social media (Facebook), technology (HP), online video (YouTube), beverage (Pepsi), athletes (Kelly Slater) and the US Government.
Roman is also a founder and board member of Gen Next (gen-next.org), a non-profit organization focused on "affecting change for the next generation." Roman’s focus is on education and youth outreach. Roman has extensive operating and private equity experience specializing in social media, digital technology and consumer products. Roman has been recognized as a “Rising Star: 40 under 40” by OC Magazine and Chain Store Age. Roman is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, where he received a B.A. in International Economics with Distinctive Honors, and holds a certificate in Language and Business Management from Moscow State University.
